Bio

The Z-Boys are a surf rock band originally from Newport, Rhode Island. Inspired by Newport’s stunning coastline and local surf culture, the band formed in the summer of 2014.

Since then, the Z-Boys have cemented themselves as a knockout live act willing to cross lines of genre in the name of musical excellence. Much like their SoCal namesake, they are willing to take big musical risks, and they always seem to stick the landing. They have released two singles in 2019 - “Third Rail”, a fast country two-beat, was released in March 2019 as part of a split 7” vinyl with Muddy Ruckus from Portland, Maine. Their single “Schizophonia” was released in August 2019 on a compilation by Rocktorium Records.

The Z-Boys released their debut full length, ‘Elwood’, in 2020. Recorded once again at Rocktorium Records by Ray Gennari, ‘Elwood’ featured eight original songs, many with lyrics by Greg Burgess, as well as a cover of ‘Stratus’ by Billy Cobham, a favorite of Z-Boys’ live sets. Following a successful kickstarter and sold out album release show on March 6, 2020, ‘Elwood’ was immediately put on the shelf due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, after a long hiatus and streamlining the set into purely instrumental music, Z-Boys are back to stunning live audiences with their one of a kind style. Their single, ‘The Spice’, to be released in March 2023, is the lead single from their forthcoming album DONE TALKIN’ (to be released 2023). Recorded by Sammy D’Ambruoso at Studio Blue and Andem Street Studios, DONE TALKIN’ captures the pure essence of Z-Boys from a vantage point of a live audience member, bringing the listener as close as you can get without being in the room.

The Z-Boys have shared the stage with legends like Fishbone, KRS-ONE, and Arrested Development, national touring acts Deer Tick, Badfish, Spiritual Rez, Roots of Creation, Zach Deputy, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Muddy Ruckus, Ali McGuirk, Tall Tall Trees, and NOVA ONE. They have also performed with regional favorites Harsh Armadillo, The Silks, GYMSHORTS, Julie Rhodes, Crooked Coast and more.
